But Sister, as Nancy said
that there’s so little money stir rin nowadays.
Rosa : M-m-m-m. (Presently). Thank you all for tryin. (Picks up the vase,
studies it) I remember Misses Walker wanted to buy this. (hal. 8)

The Deacon : We did our best, Sister.
Rosa : I’m sure you all did.
The Deacon : And as you know, we couldn’t begin to pay what you is askin for
Rosa : (Nods.) I understand. Thank you all for tryin. (hal. 8)

Miss Nancy : We wish we could do more to help.
Rosa : Just pray, dear friends, that I don’t falter. I’ve put my trust in Jesus
and-well, thank you all for what you all tried to do. (hal. 8)

2. Relijius

Miss Nancy : We wish we could do more to help.
Rosa : Just pray, dear friends, that I don’t falter. I’ve put my trust in Jesus
and-well, thank you all for what you all tried to do. (hal. 8)

Leroy : Phew! It must be at least ninety in the shade today. (takes his polka dot
handkerchief from his hip pocket and wipes his brow). We sure nuff could use
some rain, huh?
Rosa : Guess the Lord seen no reason yet to give it. (hal. 9)

Rosa : (Sits.) I don’t complain none, Mr. Charlie. The good Lord knows
how much I can bear.
Mr. Charlie : Now aint that said jest like a Christian? Rosa, I tell you, I do believe
the good Lord is purifyin you for his kingdom. I tell my wife all the
time if there’s a true-true Christian anywheres around these parts,
it’s you. (hal. 12)

Perry : I aint sayin you aint, Mr....
