The influence of other people has many affects on a person’s decisions and their actions. Chris Cleave examines the idea of external influences on a person in his book Little Bee. First, Lawrence influences Sarah’s mentality by advising her to overcome the guilt she carries and by emotionally supporting her as she grieves the loss of her husband. Second, the two minor character’s Andrew and Charlie influence Sarah’s decision making positively ultimately effecting her actions. In this book readers will see how the minor character influences the major character’s mentality in a positive way thus impacting the major character’s actions.

Lawrence tries to always be there for Sarah when she needs him. Sarah knows that Lawrence will emotionally be there for her, which makes her feel more drawn to him. Lawrence influences Sarah’s mentality in a positive way because he reminds her that he is always going to support her whenever she needs it the most. In conclusion, Lawrence positive advice and his reassurance during Sarah’s hard times influence her positively, thus affecting her actions.

Secondly, the positive influences of the minor characters Andrew and Charlie positively impact Sarah’s decision making ultimately effecting her actions. To begin, the memory of Andrew and the book he was working on about the situation in Nigeria which impacts little bee, influences Sarah’s mentality in a positive way; pushing her to strive harder on her mission to help little bee. Andrews presence in Sarah’s mind; "maybe it [is] the presence of Andrew. ..., his books and papers [are] everywhere still and when I think of Andrew I think of little bee"(Cleave192).
