A Child called "it", by David Pelzer is an auto biography depicting the authors abusive childhood growing up. Pelzer writes about his struggle to stay alive because he is physically and verbally abused everyday by his mother. As the book begins, the school officals finally come to realize that there is an issue with Dave and his mother physically abusing him is a serious condition. Pelzer's explains how his mother was the perfect mother at one point in his life. He explains how when he was younger his mother took him on vacations, educated him, and was very loving and attentive. I believe that the best day of Dave's life was when the police took him away from his mother for good. Here is another quotation that describes the amount of hatred and disgust Dave's mother has toward him:"Well aren't you special...get one thing straight you little [SOB]. There is nothing you can do to impress me! Do you understand me? You are a nobody, and "It!" You are nonexistent! You are a bastard child! I hate you and I wish you were dead! Dead! Do you hear me? Dead!"She broke his bones, stabbed him, starved him, with no apparent reason, and he knew if he ever told, it would only get worse. David went through so much living with his mother. This was only just the beginning. At times David's mother made him stand in the garage all day, until he was permitted back in the house to either do chores or go to bed. He was no longer allowed to eat or play with his brothers. One summer while David and his family went on vacation to a campsite, David was dropped off at his aunt's house because he was not allowed to go on the trip with them. Even though Dave's family didn't like him or even want him he still wanted to be with his family on vacation so he tried to run away and find them. Throughout the story the mother continuously calls Dave "it"....
