A Cautious Mind Essay

565 words - 3 pages

As a young boy I was extremely adventurous, open and fearless. Now many years later I still posses many of the traits I possessed as a child still remain intact, but many new traits began to blossom in my personality due to events that occurred in my past that greatly contributed to my cautious way of thinking. Throughout my life there have been significant moments that pushed me into the direction of cautious thinking.Around six years ago when I was eight I experienced my first push into the cautious direction. Just two years after that, I experienced yet another excruciatingly painful step forward to obtaining a cautious mind. My family and some relatives went for a lovely, relaxing day at the park where my father barbequed a variety of mouthwatering chicken and steak. I still recalled the incident involving the swimming pool so I was reluctant to do anything that seemed too risky. Succeeding the amazing barbeque my cousins, brothers and I had an amazing game of soccer which completely exhausted me physically so I took a break on the swings. As I swung higher and higher I noticed my cousin taking a swing into his hand, which struck me as very odd, then everything happened in one split second. My cousin tossed the swing into the air due to his own stupidity and it cut a deep gash at the back of my head, but only after it struck me with the seat. I landed in an extremely awkward position with my hands on my head and my hair drenched in blood. It was quite ironic that the most cautious person received the injury while the most careless person left unscathed. That event was what fixed cautious thinking into my brain, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.I was told time and time again by friends and family that I am overly cautious and that my reluctance prevented me from having fun. Subsequent to being told that I would always resent the part about my cautious mind not allowing me to enjoy myself. Most people believe that being cautious prevents you from doing the things you enjoy, and that could be true, but not for everyone and most certainly not for me.
