It's no surprise that most college students aren't rolling in cash. Still, those poor college students get cravings for real dessert once in a while. Cravings that even the Forbidden Fudge Brownie from Friendly's can’t satisfy.
Fairleigh Dickinson University is sandwiched between two wealthy towns, Morristown and Madison. But that doesn't mean that you have to settle for swedish fish and oreos--high quality, delicious treats don't have to cost as much as a college textbook.
These five spots will cure sugar lust-at least until your next study session, and all are astonishingly easy-on-the-wallet. Some of the tastiest, most popular items on the menu will put you out less than six bucks. ...view middle of the document...
Everything looks good here--from the crunchy, peanut butter creme filled cookie sandwiches to the cheery green gingham curtains in the windows, to the little gleaming wooden tables inside. Everything here is made on the premises, every morning. Even the bread. There are some truly delectable things in the glass case--like an impossibly perfect-looking malted chocolate cheesecake ($28) about a hand's length across--that you'll have to skip unless mom or dad are along and feeling especially generous. Otherwise, there is a large selection of reasonably priced sweets. "Dots," little infant-sized cupcakes, are only $1.50 each. Try some fresh strawberry muffins ($2.50), or load up on spicy $0.50 gingersnaps. Even the gluten-free cookies, with their crispy consistency and melty chocolate chips, are a good choice. But if you're looking for something exceptional, the apricot almond brioche ($3.50), a delightfully flaky, crunchy, chewy and sweet french-toast-like pastry dusted in powdered sugar--is the way to go.
