Floyd was awarded the Wright Bros. Medal in 1950 by the Society
of Automotive Engineers, for a paper presented to the Society
on the design of North America's first jet transport, the
Avro Canada C 102 Jetliner.
Jim was in charge of the design team on the Jetliner
and had previously worked with two of the great British designers, Sir Sydney
Camm on derivatives of the Hawker Hurricane and with Roy Chadwick on the designs
of the Avro Anson, the Lancaster, the York transport and the Tudor passenger

awarded to a non-American and was cast in gold.
