ARROW
RECOVERY CANADA INCORPORATED
The
Avro Arrow recovery attempt is a project entirely staffed
by volunteers, that is striving to salvage an important
part of Canadian Aviation Heritage
The
Arrow began development in 1953, by Avro Aircraft of Malton,
Ont., and was the most technologically advanced fighter jet
ever designed. Although, the Arrow was light years ahead
of its competition in design, it was dismantled by the federal
government under the direction of then Prime Minister John
Diefenbaker. While the citizens of Canada may never know
the truth about the political intrigue that led to the demise
of the Arrow, they will be able to see the almost 225kg (500
lb.) test models which were fired by "NIKE" booster rockets
over Lake Ontario during the 1950's, once they are recovered.
The "Arrow
Recovery Canada" project is a non-profit organization
led by a board of directors with Mr. Andrew Hibbert as
president and Ms Mar Smith as vice president. Our group
is comprised of many multi-skilled members and ex-Avro
employees who give assistance when required.
When
raised the first 4 Arrow models have been spoken for
by; The National Aviation Museum, Rockcliffe Ontario,
Trenton's R.C.A.F. Memorial Museum, Hamilton's Canadian
Warplane Heritage Museum, and the A.V.Roe Heritage Museum
in Calgary Alberta.
In
order to be successful in our recovery efforts, we are
looking for both financial and material support from
the corporate community. A Trust Fund has been set up
at TD Canada Trust, in the name of the group to manage
all cash contributions. A select group of corporate sponsors
will be approached to help us obtain the materials which
we will need and also the cash flow that will be necessary
to pay for the volunteer's expenses. Our intent is to
keep the sponsorship of this project entirely Canadian.
